The warm weather is coming to an end as Autumn begins to move in
With leaves and conkers beginning to litter London’s streets, it’s hard to deny Autumn is quickly moving in. However, while the endless heatwaves have seemingly come to an end, temperatures continue to remain fairly mild.
This coming week is no different, with thermometers reaching 25C on yesterday afternoon (September 14) followed by a high of 22C today (Tuesday, September 15), according to BBC Weather. Conditions will be clear but cloudy, before the sun attempts to break after midday.
But, the capital will see highs dip to below 20C on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, forecasters believe. The former will see a mix of sunny intervals and some breeze followed by clouds into the evening.
Rain is expected to arrive on Thursday, bringing intermittent showers between around 9am and 2pm. Friday is predicted to be uneventful, bar a brief batch of blue skies during rush hour, before temperatures jump to 23C on Saturday.
Sadly, it won’t be a day for sunglasses as the skyline is set to remain behind cloud from morning to night. Light rain could then fall in the early hours of Sunday, making for a rather dull weekend overall.
Meteorologists are currently not forecasting a heatwave, i.e. three consecutive days of 28C or higher, for the rest of the month. BBC Weather says temperatures will sit at between 11C and 24C from now until Sunday, September 27, though this is subject to change.
The Met Office agrees, and is warning of occasional rain or showers arriving from the North Atlantic. That being said, the start of October is when Autumn will really tighten its grip.
The Met Office long-range forecast reads: “Most likely remaining changeable, with further spells of rain and showers arriving from the North Atlantic. Strong winds possible too at times, these most frequent across the north and west.
“Some short-lived settled spells are also possible, these most likely in the south. Temperatures for the period as a whole will probably be close to average overall.”
