The school in East London receives around 5 applications for every available Year 7 space
A secondary school in East London currently has over 1,000 applications for only 53 Year 7 places, making it one of the ‘hardest’ state schools to get into in the country.
Seven Kings in Ilford, a state school, is an all-through school in East London where students stay from early childhood through to sixth form. For Year 7 entries, the school offers only 53 places to external students.
Data gathered by SchoolFacts showed that for its 53 Year 7 places, there were 1,445 applications, with 259 parents selecting Seven Kings as their first choice. Relative to its size, Seven Kings is one of the ‘hardest’ schools to get a place at.
In total, 27 families applied for each place.
In its latest Ofsted report, Seven Kings was last rated as Outstanding.
It was noted that the school has ‘very high expectations’ for its pupils, who achieve ‘extremely well’.
The report also labelled the pupils in all phases of the school as ‘well prepared for life in modern Britain’.
When it came to overall numbers, Brampton Manor in Newham is the school with the most first-choice applications in the capital.
The East London school is famous for its students achieving some of the best results in the country – last year it outperformed the historic Eton College.
1,161 families named it first, for 434 places. Kingsdale Foundation School in Southwark received the most applications of any preference: 2,871.
Compared with Seven Kings, both are large schools, so they naturally attract many applications.
