Paramedics rushed her to hospital, but she died later that same day
A 33-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car in Southwark at rush hour. She was struck on New Kent Road, in Elephant and Castle, shortly before 8am yesterday (September 14).
Paramedics and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance treated the victim at the scene before rushing her to a major trauma centre, where she later died. She is yet to be formally named by the Metropolitan Police.
Witnesses described seeing the woman ‘bounce off a tree and hitting a Lime bike’ during the early morning collision, per LondonNow. One onlooker reportedly provided CPR as help arrived.
Responding officers arrested a man aged 31 on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs. He remains in custody as of yesterday evening.
Enquiries remain ongoing and those who saw the crash are urged to come forward to help in the investigation.
The London Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 7:58am today (14 September) to reports of a road traffic collision on New Kent Road, SE1.
“We sent ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated a patient at the scene and took her to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
