A 22-year-old man has been charged with the rape of a woman in Covent Garden.
Christopher Rocha is accused of attacking the victim, who’s aged in her 20s, on Macklin Street in the early hours of August 22.
He has also been charged with intentional strangulation and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, September 12.
The Metropolitan Police previously said a woman was approached by an unknown man as she walked through the crowded streets of Shaftesbury Avenue, Cambridge Circus, and Drury Lane in the West End.
At around 5.20am, the man allegedly dragged her into a doorway in Macklin Street before raping her, the force added.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley said previously: “Our thoughts are with the victim who continues to demonstrate tremendous courage.
“No woman or girl should feel unsafe on the streets of London, and we remain steadfast in our pursuit of those who commit these terrible offences.”
Rocha, of Kilburn Lane, Westminster, was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, October 9.
