Where are King Charles and other senior royals carrying out duties today?

Senior royals are set to carry out engagements on Thursday after explosive claims from a new memoir by the brother of Diana, Princess of Wales were published.

Charles will address bosses from some of the world’s leading AI developers – Nvidia, Anthropic and OpenAI – about the future of artificial intelligence.

He is expected to tell a summit at Dumfries House in Scotland that the new technology should be in the “service of humanity, community and the natural world”.

Diana’s son William and his wife Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales who also hold the titles of the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, are set to make their first official visit to Isle of Bute.

The day is to include visiting their namesake town of Rothesay and follows their visits to the Isles of Mull and Iona last year.

The Duke of Sussex is also expected to make his first public appearance since returning to the UK.

Harry and Meghan, who returned to England from the US last month, were forced to move their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, to a new school after talks with their security team.

The Duchess of Edinburgh’s visit to Zambia, to try to celebrate the relationship between Zambia and the UK, is among other royal engagements.

Meanwhile, the Princess Royal will attend the opening of a new History Centre at the German Military Cemetery in Staffordshire.

Revisiting Earl Spencer’s eulogy for Princess Diana

Earl Spencer’s fraught relationship with the royal family became public knowledge after he delivered an emotional and pointed eulogy at Princess Diana’s funeral.

In the televised address at Westminster Abbey, he pledged that the princess’s “blood family” would protect her sons William and Harry “so that their souls are not simply immersed by duty and tradition, but can sing openly as you planned”.

“We fully respect the heritage into which they have both been born and will always respect and encourage them in their royal role but we, like you, recognise the need for them to experience as many different aspects of life as possible to arm them spiritually and emotionally for the years ahead,” he said.

“I know you would have expected nothing less from us.

“William and Harry, we all cared desperately for you today. We are all chewed up with the sadness at the loss of a woman who was not even our mother. How great your suffering is, we cannot even imagine.”

Who is Earl Spencer?

Charles Edward Maurice Spencer, or Earl Spencer, is a British peer and journalist and the younger brother of Princess Diana.

He was also the godson of the late Queen Elizabeth II, and has close family ties to the Royal Family.

But his relationship with the royals has been fraught with tension since Diana’s death in 1997.

According to the Daily Mail, Earl Spencer says his upcoming book Swan Song: Diana, My Sister was written to correct “untruths” told about his older sister, who died in a Paris car crash in August 1997.

‘Grief can cloud reason’: Buckingham Palace hits back at claims made by Earl Spencer

Buckingham Palace has hit back at claims made in an upcoming bombshell memoir written by Princess Diana’s brother Earl Spencer, saying that the King believes “grief can cloud reason”.

The book, which is set to be serialised in the Daily Mail, alleges that in the days after Diana’s death, King Charles had said “rest assured, we’ll forget her soon enough”.

Charles, who was Prince of Wales at the time, made the apparent remarks to Earl Spencer during a major dispute over funeral arrangements after Diana died in a car crash in Paris on 31 August 1997.

A palace spokesman said: “While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss.”
