Patrol officers rushed to the scene on a major road towards Angel, where a cordon has been in place for much of the day
A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a late-night fight in Islington that was spotted by CCTV operators. Police were alerted to an altercation at the junction of Packington Street and Essex Road shortly before 1am on Saturday, September 26.
A patrol team rushed to the scene but the group involved had already left by the time they arrived. Further enquiries lead officers to an injured 19-year-old who was allegedly part of the incident.
He was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement this afternoon.
The man was subsequently taken to hospital, where his condition was deemed neither life-threatening or life-changing.
Part of Essex Road has been cordoned off for most of the day, causing several London Bus routes to be diverted through the surrounding area.
A long strecth of blue-and-white tape was set up along Essex Road, as well as the adjacent St Mary’s Path and a section of Upper Street.
Police are now appealing for anyone who saw the incident or has information about what happened to come forward.
Witnesses are asked to call 101, quoting reference 340/26SEP. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
