It’s October, which can only mean one thing! Amazon Prime members can kick off the new month by grabbing their latest batch of digital reading material with the Amazon First Reads program. You can pick up two freebies of your choice this month, instead of the usual one, plus a bonus short read!
Here are the editors’ picks of what you can find in October’s Amazon Prime First Reads program.
There’s something for everyone here!
First of all, this program is available to Prime members in the United Kingdom, the United States, and select other countries, though eligibility and book choices may vary by region. As in recent months, subscribers can choose two Kindle books from this month’s curated lineup free of charge.
This collection has something for everyone, from pulse-pounding thrillers to immersive fantasy.
One I’m particularly interested in is the suspenseful short story Warm Bodies by John Marrs. No, it’s not from the film. This follows a character called Brenda, who lives quietly in a picture-perfect English village. She looks after her grandchildren, restores old furniture, and keeps herself to herself. She’s the sort of neighbour people feel comfortable judging. It sounds like it’s about a nosy WhatsApp group of neighbours. The description reads: “As scrutiny tightens, Brenda finds herself navigating busybodies, moral crusaders and a community that believes it knows best. What they don’t know is that Brenda has spent a lifetime solving problems discreetly.”
There’s also the psychological thriller Mirror Image, and the gripping crime procedural The Session which sounds good.
If you’re a fan of speculative fiction and romance, you’re not forgotten! There’s the romantasy opener Thief of Hearts (Book 1 of The Heart of the Goddess series), the historical fantasy The Queen’s Witch (Book 1 of The Tudor Witches), and the western romance option The Love Operation.
Rounding out the monthly lineup are character-driven choices including The Woman I’ve Become, a moving portrait of a woman’s journey to rediscover herself after loss; the book club fiction pick Ghost Orchid, where a community’s secrets unravel following a startling disappearance; the historical drama The Lost Kingdom of Daughters, chronicling the resilience of a royal family in exile; and the contemporary romance The Apparent Trap, a witty tale of mistaken identities and unexpected love.
Eligible Prime members can browse the full collection and claim their two complimentary selections directly through the Amazon First Reads page before the current month’s window closes. If you’re not a Prime member, you can still pick up every book here for $0.99.
