Police scanned footage from two reported incidents and quickly worked out similarities which led them to catching the voyeur
An Islington pervert filmed women through the windows of their homes. The net closed in on Anthony Durkan, 35, of Corporation Street, after two voyeur incidents reported this year, in January and March.
Police scanned the footage from the two incidents and quickly worked out similarities. In each case, Durkan wore the same clothing, targeted women through windows during the early hours, and filmed them on his phone without their knowing.
The two offences happened in close proximity, arousing suspicions further. Police began patrolling and an unmarked cop car quickly found a man matching the description.
A plain‑clothed officer saw him go up to a home and carry out the same pattern of behaviour. He was arrested moments later outside the property and identified as Durkan.
Durkan’s mobile phone was seized at the scene which had a hidden gallery of hundreds of images and videos of women. There was no evidence any of the women were aware they were being recorded.
A search of Durkan’s home address led officers to seize five additional mobile devices and a small camera. Police unearthed a shocking 99 images and 162 videos on the devices and working out how many different women they relate to. Footage shared by the Met Police showed the weirdo creeping up to a window and starting to film.
Police want to hear from women in Islington and across North London between January 2020 and March 2026 who may have noticed oddities around their home. Especially late at night or in the early hours.
He was jailed at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday, October 28, for four years.
Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Alger, whose team led the investigation, said: “Durkan carried out a calculated and deeply intrusive campaign of offending, targeting women in what should have been the safety and privacy of their own homes. Many victims had no idea they were being watched and filmed.
“This investigation was driven by the determination of officers to act on reports from local women and identify the perpetrator.
“Through proactive patrols, officers were able to spot Durkan carrying out the same offending behaviour and arrest him before more women could be targeted.
“I would like to thank the victims for the courage they showed in coming forward and supporting this investigation.
“Their actions, alongside the proactive work of officers who identified and stopped Durkan’s offending, have undoubtedly prevented further harm.”
