People said it looked like the bacon was cooked on a radiator – or by a heated debate
A bride-to-be says a cafe handed her a ‘raw’ bacon sandwich that people said looked like it was ‘cooked on a radiator’. Sophie MacNair went to view a wedding venue with her fiancé Ryan Smith, 27, on October 17 and stopped for breakfast at the Thames City cafe in London en route.
Ryan ordered a cappuccino and bacon roll while recruitment worker Sophie opted for a black coffee and an acai bowl, with the bill coming to £20. When the pair looked at their breakfasts, they were disappointed by the ‘sad’ bacon sarnie looking back at them.
A photo shows Ryan’s roll that Sophie claims looked ‘barely cooked’. Even 28-year-old Sophie, who is vegetarian, says she was shocked at the state of the bacon roll, saying ‘even I knew it didn’t look great’.
Ryan opted not to eat it and after leaving the shop Sophie posted a photo of the roll on social media where users were quick to say the bacon looked ‘undercooked’. Sophie, from Wokingham, Berkshire, said: “We ended up getting there about 30 minutes early before our appointment.
“My partner was quite hungry so he got the meal deal option where you get a coffee and bacon roll for around £7. I’m actually a vegetarian and even I knew that it didn’t look great.
“The bacon looked almost raw. He opened it up and I just had to take a photo as it looked so bad. He just opened it up and was like, ‘have ever seen such a sad bacon roll?’. I was shocked. It was a crumpled up little piece of raw bacon. He didn’t eat the bacon roll as he didn’t want to risk being ill, it looked very undercooked and raw.
“The piece of bacon was the size of a 50p piece. It’s the first time we’ve been there and we probably won’t go back.”
After posting a photo of the bacon roll on social media, the post racked up more than 83,000 views and nearly 100 comments. One user wrote: “Bacon cooked on a radiator.” Another commented: “Bacon cooked in a heated debate.”
A third wrote: “That’s diabolical.” A fourth quipped “A good vet could bring that bacon back to life.”
The coffee chain declined to comment.
