A man was left flabbergasted when he realised how much a Harrods own-brand bottle of water was going to cost him, and it was a significant portion of his £100 budget
Nobody thinks that a lunchtime jaunt to Harrods is going to be cheap. The iconic department store is well known for being packed with luxury goods that most people would have to save up to purchase. However, have you ever considered buying your lunch there and seeing how much it sets you back?
That’s exactly what one man decided to do, and as he wandered around with his basket, he was left utterly gobsmacked by the price of a simple drink – water. How much do you reckon is acceptable to pay for water? £1? £2? Maybe even a fiver if it’s in a particularly nice glass bottle.
Well, you won’t believe how much Harrods’ own-brand water is in the food hall, and Adam, who posts on TikTok as @aa_moriarty, was totally floored by it as well.
How much did a bottle of water cost at Harrods?
It was £17. Yes, £17 for Harrods water. He couldn’t believe his eyes. He explained that he’d never been to Harrods, despite the fact that he’d “lived in London for five years now,” and he was quickly realising that he may not be returning.
He said that everybody “raves about” the food hall, but would everybody be spending that much on something you can get a nice one for £2.50?
Adam picked up a £3,000 pot of caviar and was shocked by how much it was. But probably less shocked than the water, as at least caviar has a reputation for being extremely expensive.
What other lunch items did Adam pick up?
He picked up watermelon juice for £8, berries for £12, and an “unbelievable” chocolate cake for £5, which he joked was a “bargain”. He did pick up the £17 water, saying he wasn’t going to “think about it” and was just going to “get it”.
Adam then moved over to the “proper food” rather than the snacky bits, looking at the build-your-own salad section.
He said there was “so much to choose from,” but eventually picked up an Asian prawn salad, saying that he was “getting more” than he thought he’d be able to with his vast budget of £100.
Next up on the hit list were the lobster rolls, which were priced at £18 each, but they came in their own little box, which Adam was pleased with.
He couldn’t believe there was a melon that cost £150, however, and a Japanese peach for £56. Adam did indulge in three chocolate-covered strawberries for £5, however.
He picked up a mango and passionfruit mochi, too, guessing that his whole basket would blow the budget and come in at £110.
Overall, he spent £63, joking that he was going to get more, but then accepting that he’d got “plenty,” so wouldn’t be getting any more items, despite the fact that it was all extremely tempting.
“I think that’s the most expensive lunch I’ve ever got,” he admitted, as he walked out of the food hall.
