The popular spot is known for attracting long queues
One of London’s best-loved bakeries is opening a second location this summer. TOAD Bakery has announced plans for a larger site at the entrance of Deptford Market Yard, joining a long list of independent restaurants, bars and shops in June.
The move will come as no surprise to locals in Camberwell, where the original brick-and-mortar bakery is known for attracting long queues. First launched in 2022, TOAD specialises in bread, pastries and an ever-rotating menu of sandwiches.
It went on to win London’s Bakery of the Year at the National Bakery Awards 2025, and has gained a large following online. Sadiq Khan is a fan too, with the Mayor of London deeming it his favourite bakery in the capital.
Owners Rebecca Spaven and Oliver Costello have promised the new branch will feature customer favourites, such as the Everything Bagel Croissant and Yuzu Orange Jaffa Cake, as well as espresso-based coffees.
The pair said: “Having outgrown our tiny bakery in Camberwell, we are so excited to build on all that we’ve learnt there and open a second site in the heart of Deptford. Moving most of our production to this new site will give the whole team more space to create, develop and bake for a new crowd.”
TOAD’s neighbours in Camberwell Mondo Sando have also moved into Deptford in recent weeks with takeaway spot Mondo to Go.
