An “extraordinary” true crime drama delves into a “messy world of blurred lines, fear, shame and violence”.
True crime drama fans won’t want to miss this “shocking” Channel 4 drama tonight.
Vengeance: Murder on the Heath debuts this evening, Sunday, May 24, at 9pm, on Channel 4, drawing on police interviews, texts, interviews and court documents on a love triangle that resulted in murder.
The two-part special will revolve around the killing of 21-year-old Gagandip Singh by Harvinder “Ravi” Shoker in 2011 and Mundhill Mahil’s role, the woman both men were trying to romantically pursue.
Channel 4 describes: “Gagandip Singh, a talented young television entrepreneur and Sikh community influencer, cultivated a close friendship with 19-year-old student doctor Mundill Mahil.
“However, Mundill accused Gagandip of sexually assaulting her when he turned up unannounced one night to Mundill’s Brighton student house.
“As she managed to push him off her, Gagandip pleaded for her forgiveness.
“But Mundill confided her upset to Ravi, who was also in love with her, and together they hatched a plan to lure Gagandip back to the student house, where he would be ‘taught a lesson’.”
Channel 4 continues to describe that “after a vicious beating left him unconscious”, Gagandip was placed in the boot of his sister’s Mercedes and driven to Blackheath where the car was then set on fire.
A post-mortem revealed that he was alive when the car was set alight but died from inhaling toxic fumes.
“Although she herself had not been in the room when Gagandip was attacked, at trial Mundill was characterised as a ‘manipulative’, ‘ruthless’ young woman, ‘the Sikh Virgin’ at the heart of a ‘twisted love triangle’, seeking retribution”, Channel 4 stated.
Heading up the cast are Adult Material’s Sash Desouza-Willock as Mahil, Buddha of Suburbia actor Dee Ahluwalia as Singh and Bait star Ikky Kabir as Shoker.
Writer and director Aysha Rafaela said: “It’s a haunting crime that continues to cast a long shadow and I am proud to have been able to work with such a talented young cast of up and coming British Asian actors to bring this devastating story to C4.”
