It took 70 firefighters hours to bring the devastating house fire under control
Dramatic photos show what’s left of a house after it burst into flames in South London. The ground floor and first floor of a home on Mount Pleasant Road in New Malden were destroyed, with dramatic photos showing the house burnt through to its foundations.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) sent around 70 firefighters in 10 fire engines to tackle the blaze overnight, arriving at 9.36pm on Saturday and it took them until 1am to bring it under control due to how far it spread. A car port in the front garden was also destroyed in the blaze.
One gas cylinder was removed from the scene and cooled as a precaution. There were no reported injuries.
Station Commander Steve McGhie was at the scene, he said: “The fire was producing smoke that affected the local area, residents nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors closed where possible..
“One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders was deployed as a water tower, allowing crews to tackle the flames from above.”
The Brigade’s 999 Control officers received the first of 24 calls alerting them to the fire at 9.36pm. They mobilised fire crews from Surbiton, Kingston, Sutton, Wimbledon and surrounding fire stations. The fire was under control by 1am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
