Pssst! There’s also a chance to ride on vintage buses for free in October!
Ruislip Lido has its own miniature railway service, and occasionally it opens up for special behind-the-scenes tours.
The next of these takes place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026, featuring:
🚂 Train services running every 15 minutes throughout both days, along what is Britain’s longest 12-inch gauge railway, which wends through the woodlands skirting Ruislip Lido*
🚂 All of the railway’s locomotives on display to admire and sit in. Track maintenance vehicles will be on display too.
🚂 A workshop area open to the public, with railway staff there to answer questions, including how you can become a volunteer.
🚂 Refreshments from the Turntable Tearoom at Willow Lawn.
🚂 Buy souvenirs and railwayana from the shop.
And if you have a good time, why not book a seat on one of their Santa Specials running this December.
Ruislip Lido Railway behind-the-scenes, 19-20 September 2026, 11am-5pm, free (there’s a small fee to ride the trains). All trains are wheelchair, pushchair and buggy friendly.
*No need to bring your swimming costume though — this particular lido is for geese only.
